Figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics this week show the Murray region - which includes Albury and a large part of southern and south western NSW - had a 10 per cent jobless rate last month.
The result is up from a 4.6 per cent unemployment rate recorded in April.
The statistics show about 2900 additional people were out of work between April and May.
In somewhat curious result, statistics for North East Victoria show just a 0.9 per cent unemployment rate.
