The Albury Library Museum is one of several institutions across regional NSW in line to host items between the closure of the existing Ultimo premises and the opening of new Powerhouse at Parramatta.

Documents released via NSW parliament have revealed the plans, however it is unclear exactly what objects will come to Albury.

Items from the Border in the collection include wool from Table Top and Corowa, a model of Murray River paddle steamer Wallaby and a glass negative depicting Albury Public School.

NSW Opposition arts spokesman Walt Secord told The Sydney Morning Herald he was worried the Powerhouse collection would be "smashed up into little pieces and flung around the state".

That drove a jab from rival Upper House Riverina Nationals politician Wes Fang.

"That's a typical attitude from Walt Secord who lives in the eastern suburbs, he thinks the Powerhouse's fantastic collection should only be displayed in Sydney whereas we can see the value of spreading it around regional NSW," he said.

Mr Secord responded by saying "I want to see real financial assistance provided to regional organisations like the Albury LibraryMuseum".

"I don't know how a country MP like Wes Fang can stand by the decision to pour $1.5 billion into the Powerhouse Museum when there are so many important and vital projects in the regions - which have been starved for the last 10 years of funding," he said.

Albury MP Justin Clancy welcomed Powerhouse items coming to his city and was concern at remarks about how the pieces would be handled on the Border.
