The number of North East businesses seeking out financial counselling due to the summer bushfires and COVID-19 is on the rise.
Small Business Bushfire Financial Counselling Support Line general manager Helen Davis said businesses were "struggling" and find themselves "overwhelmed" by the situation.
"Businesses may have been counting on an improved local business environment from Easter, which did not eventuate," she said.

"Our experience is that many callers are overwhelmed by the situation in which they find themselves.
"Their business is struggling, and they have business and personal debts they are unable to service."
Ms Davis encouraged business owners to reach out at the first instance of financial issues.
