While he conceded it was the right decision in the circumstances, Ednie felt the decision could have long-lasting ramifications.
"It was the smart decision not to play with the rest of the competitions in the region not playing," Ednie said.
"But I do see the decision as a bit of a worry in regards to the junior competitions.
"Hopefully the league can have a junior competition of some description.
"Otherwise we could lose the kids to other sports."

Ednie said the decision will also affect senior football in the future.
"It's getting harder each year to get the forty blokes you need to fill the seniors and reserves," he said.
"Most clubs have around 20 blokes that are committed and the rest only play for something to do.
"Now having a year off, blokes will find other interests.
"Blokes will work, go camping or do whatever and getting them back to the footy club could be tough."
Ednie said he had loved his time at Rennie and was looking forward to his fourth season at the helm.
The Hoppers won back-to-back flags in 2017-18 and made the preliminary final last year.
They were expected to be hard to beat again this season after signing Brendan Fevola, Ricky Dyson, Daniel Maher and Brad Thompson.
