Kotzur, 34, was set to call it quits on his career after winning a third flag with Thurgoona last year and retire on the ultimate high.
However, the prospect of a shortened season and playing alongside Magpie coach Tom Yates proved too hard to resist.
"A short, sharp season is appealing, especially to us older fellas," Kotzur said.
"I was going to hang up the boots and do a bit of camping with the kids.
"But to catch-up with some old mates and play footy for a couple of months has re-ignited my passion for footy a bit.
"Tom and I have spoken about playing together since we won a flag at Albury in 2009.
"I tried to get Tom to Ganmain and Thurgoona but it didn't work out.
"But I'm looking forward to running around in the Farrer league - it should be a bit of fun."

The Rock-Yerong Creek have also secured the prized signings of Albury co-coach Luke Daly, alongside Wodonga's McKye Turner.
Former Wodonga Raiders co-captain Brad Hibberson has also signed with the Magpies as well as Thurgoona recruit Brent Rose.
"It's a bit random playing in the Farrer league but it's a unique opportunity," Kotzur said.
"With Luke Daly signing, that swayed me a bit as well.
"It's been a bit of an eye-opener how many blokes that live in Albury and Wodonga have decided to switch leagues.
"But it is the only league that is playing within a couple of hundred kilometre radius from Albury.
"Obviously clubs can't sign too many players with the points system and you don't want to upset the locals and make sure they still get a game."
Kotzur was also contacted by former club Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong about playing this year.
The Barton medallist said it would be fascinating to see how Osborne fared in the Riverina league under coach Joel Mackie.
"They are probably the most successful bush footy club in the region," he said.
"I've got no doubt Osborne will be finals contenders.
"They've got a stack of talented kids complemented by some wiser heads in Mackie, Matt Rava and Elliott Powell will be as good as anybody in the league."
