Myrtleford, Albury Hotspurs and Cobram were the three clubs that wanted to see the 2020 season go ahead at a league crisis meeting at the start of the week, but lost the vote 9-3.

Wodonga Diamonds are a chance to join them in a four-team mini season, involving multiple grades from each club.

Myrtleford president and senior co-coach Matt Park was frustrated the season proper was called off two weeks out from the proposed restart date and wants to ensure Savoy players have every opportunity to get back on the park.

"We're trying to do a little home and away, eight-game muck around," Park said.

"It would be good if we could get something like that happening.

"Whichever grades match up, we'll do a fixture and play it out. I'm not sure about our ladies and reserve men, but I think nearly all of our kids are keen to go ahead.

"We'll just see what we can work out."

Both Albury Hotspurs and Myrtleford told The Border Mail this week they were willing to do everything possible on the health and safety front to ensure the AWFA season went ahead.

If successful, it could mean almost half of the league's clubs will remain playing in some capacity in 2020 after Albury City applied to have its senior men contest Wagga's Pascoe Cup season this week.
