The wily trainer only decided on Tuesday to transport stablemates News Girl and Front Page back to his Corowa stables from Rutherglen with the imminent closure of the NSW and Victorian border.
Duryea said if he had waited a day longer it would have thrown the spring campaigns of his two stable stars into disarray.

"It doesn't happen often but I look like a genius now," Duryea joked.
"I pre-empted that this might be on the cards so that's why I decided to get my horses back on this side of the border.
"News Girl has had a good break and it right to resume work.
"Front Page needs a few more weeks break and I'll just take it easy with him.
"Hopefully in six weeks this will all be behind us and we can race in Victoria."
