Police on Friday confirmed the incident, which took place last Sunday between Olive and Kiewa streets.
A witness said multiple people were struck during the incident in the early afternoon.
Police said a 78-year-old man was punched in the face before being thrown to the ground, and hit his head on a street light pole as he fell down.
He briefly lost consciousness and suffered a cut to the back of his head.
Two doctors approached the victim to help him after the assault.
One was kicked in the stomach and fell to the ground.
Both doctors were kicked in the head.

The assaults came moments after an initial incident near Prouds the Jewellers.
A man was struck in the face without warning.
Paramedics confirmed two people had been treated for their injuries and were taken to Albury Base Hospital with bleeding to the face.
Police said members of the public directed officers to the alleged offender, a 30-year-old man.
He was arrested near the LibraryMuseum and was taken back to the Albury Police Station for questioning.
He was charged with various offences.
The 30-year-old was bailed in Albury Local Court on Monday and will return to the court at a later date.
Police continue to investigate the matter, which was witnessed by multiple people.
