Muller, who is the youngest coach in the Ovens and Murray at 23, informed Hopper players and officials of his decision on Saturday.
The 200-centimetre ruckman took North Albury to three wins in his debut season at the helm after many predicted the club to finish with the wooden spoon.
"I just think North Albury need to get someone in with more experience to take the next step," Muller said.
"With the AFL and VFL restructuring after COVID-19, there could be someone out there who might be interested.
"There are a lot of job losses and things like that and it's something I think North Albury should tap into.
"I thought I'd tell the club now and not later so it has plenty of time to have a good look around to find the right person.
"I'm fairly proud of what I've done."
Muller, who is likely to become a recruiting target given the dearth of quality ruckmen in the region, is unsure about his playing future.
He was set to play out the season on a permit for Northern Jets before the Farrer league's competition was abandoned last Friday.
The Jets are believed to be one of several Farrer league clubs considering crossing to the Riverina league.
"I haven't got any plans for next year at this stage," Muller said.
"I want to have success though."
Originally from Henty, Muller spent two seasons on Essendon's VFL list before tasting premiership success with Bundoora.
He become the youngest stand-alone coach in Ovens and Murray history when North Albury appointed him.
