NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced on Tuesday pub group bookings would be wound back from 20 to 10 people and attendance at venues capped at 300.

The capacity issue doesn't apply to the majority of Albury pubs, but the group booking will have the biggest impact.

Brady's Railway Hotel venue manager Gary Kavanagh said also the tightening up of pub goers mingling and not remaining seated was a far better outcome than being shut down.

"The tradies who come in on a Friday all want to stand around, chat and have a few beers," he said.

"You need to be telling them to sit down.

"We would much rather have them return to stricter restrictions rather than closing down altogether."

Mr Kavanagh said group booking changes would have an impact.

"Especially at weekends a lot of people want to book for between 12 and 15 people," he said.

"Plus with restrictions in Wodonga some people have already pulled their bookings because four of the 12 people are from Wodonga."

His hotel has presently capped patrons at 155 with other pubs contacted by The Border Mail also unaffected by the capacity limits.

The tighter restrictions have the backing of the Australian Hoteliers Association.

Meanwhile, to ensure licensed venues in Albury are operating safely to prevent the spread of COVID-19, Liquor & Gaming NSW have had inspectors on the ground since Monday carrying out checks.

"Inspectors will spend the week visiting licensed venues to help educate and enforce compliance with the COVID-19 public health orders," a spokesperson from Department of Customer Service said.:

"Liquor & Gaming inspectors have powers under the NSW Public Health Act 2010 to issue fines of up to $55,000 for businesses and $11,000 for individuals.

"A further $27,500 penalty can also apply to businesses each day an offence continues."

There are presently 28 cases of COVID-19 linked to the Crossroads Hotel at Casula which is a popular stopping point for interstate truckies.

The changes will not apply to major pokie venues and restaurants.
