Five agencies within the Albury Wodonga Emergency Relief Providers Network are linked into the Albury Council phone number, established in May due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Catherine Byrne of Uniting Care Wodonga said the federal government's JobSeeker and JobKeeper programs meant there was less demand for support.
"But we've seen an increase of homeless people, particularly homeless men," she said.
"And your large families, they are always going to be struggling.
"They will be in a lot of stress [when the government ends the additional payments], particularly the newer group that have lost their jobs.
"Those consumers won't know what to do, quite frankly, because they are people who have normally worked.
"We'll certainly see an increase, but we've got lots of food, and we're ready for that."
Ms Byrne said some food relief providers in Albury were still operating with reduced hours or without contact.
"We were seeing quite a few Albury people this side [of the border] who weren't able to access emergency relief food when they were needing it," she said.
"With the border being closed now, that's added another dynamic.
"We've opened our doors again, but we're following the strict guidelines that everyone has to follow; we're only allowing four in the emergency relief space at any one time.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"We were doing out interviews through a closed door and an intercom system, but it was very impersonal.
"Now we're able to talk to our folk so we can assist them a bit more."
Ms Byrne said there were "definitely" people seeking assistance who had lost work hours, or their jobs.
"I send a group email out to the Albury Wodonga Emergency Relief Providers Network every couple of weeks to see if anything's changed, in terms of operations," she said.
"That gets fed back into that central information point, and they can refer from there."
The food relief phone number, open from 9am and 3pm, is (02) 6043 8515. Information is available on Albury Council's website.
