Bathurst RSL management decided to bar Albury residents and those from other areas with coronavirus cases to protect their clientele.
Albury is the only Victorian border council area to have its residents banned despite coronavirus links to other places on the state's southern fringe such as the south coast and the Murray Downs golf resort near Swan Hill.
"We would never want to offend the people of Albury," marketing manager Janneke van der Sterren said.
"In making this decision we really just looked at the map from NSW Health showing where the cases and flare ups were.
"We don't want the people of Albury to think we're victimising them, I hope that's not what people feel."
Travellers from Victoria, Greater Sydney and the Blue Mountains are also subject to the ban which will be reviewed in two weeks after being implemented by management on Tuesday.
Ms van der Sterren said Bathurst had no virus and it was important to protect the club's patrons and 100 staff.
