A Wodonga magistrate on Tuesday said he wouldn't have been doing his job properly if he didn't lock the man up, noting he was a danger on the road.
Wesley Tomasetig, 37, was intercepted by police in Wodonga three times last year.
He was serving a driving ban each time he was stopped, and tested positive to ice and marijuana during one incident.

"You have by any view an appalling driving record," magistrate Ian Watkins told the Wodonga father of four.
Mr Vaccaro said Tomasetig was caring for his ill partner, who he said was very sick.
But the magistrate told Tomasetig he should have known the risks given his history.
"You didn't care much about your kids and wife when you took those drugs," Mr Watkins said.
The 37-year-old was released on bail after lodging an appeal against the sentence.
