Wangaratta couple Alan and Kim Sturzaker were the successful bidders on Friday for Waldara House which was occupied by its original owner, Joseph Trotman, from 1883 to 1920.

The Sturzakers operate construction company, Ultra Project Services.

Agent Joe McKenzie from Nutrien Harcourts Wangaratta said there was a high interest in the property before the sale with its most recent use being the clubhouse for Wangaratta Golf Club.

"The new owner will do an unbelievable job with the property," he said.

"They've done local work, period homes and period buildings in the past.

"This will be right up their alley.

"It hasn't been a residential property for about 60 years."

The golf club will build a replacement clubhouse on the Wangaratta-Yarrawonga Road as part of a makeover of the course which was eventually given the green light after a drawn out battle.

A 7.98-hectare parcel of land has been sub-divided to create 59 housing lots called Waldara Golf Estate which is also accessed off Wangaratta-Yarrawonga Road.

Approval for the residential estate was given council approval in 2017.

The re-zoning process began four years earlier when the council gave approval before its sacking in September 2013.

But administrators, who replaced the sacked council, back-flipped on the plans.

Waldara House was designed by a Melbourne architect and has had just nine previous owners.
