The department have not given details of the case or why it was removed.
When asked to clarify whether the initial positive test related to someone in Wangaratta or elsewhere with a Wangaratta address the department declined, saying they do not comment on individual cases.
The department's daily report specifies changes can occur to residential addresses after case interviews.
IN OTHER NEWS:
On Thursday, North East Health Wangaratta, who have undertaken the majority of COVID-19 testing in the region, told The Border Mail they were not aware of the case.
Interim Chief Executive Tim Griffiths said the positive case did not come through their clinic or in-patient facilities.
Mr Griffiths said it could be a case of a returned traveller or person testing positive in the city, but providing a Wangaratta address.
