Not only did the Tigers become the Ostriches for the first time at Wagga's Robertson Oval, their supporters faced challenges of their own in AFL Riverina Championship heartland.
One old-timer was quietly enjoying a cup of tea at half-time when the PA system erupted into action with the Rolling Stones' I Can't Get No Satisfaction.
"Bloody hell, I've never heard that out at Osborne," the elderly man said to a mate who was busily trying to unravel his pie from its plastic wrapping.
Another supporter took time to come to terms with the fact that he wasn't allowed to park on the fence inside the ground.
"I'll get pneumonia standing out here all day," he bemoaned.
But for all the changes the Hume league newcomer faced - one thing remained the same - Osborne came away winners.
With 16-year-old ruckman Nick Madden taking the first bounce on debut, the young Ostriches hit the ground running and never stopped.
Ed Perryman was all class as he roamed far and wide while on loan from Collingullie Glenfeld Park, former coach Matt Rava led superbly when he wasn't wrestling former Wagga Tigers teammates and Izaak McDonnell and Nick Perryman got through a power of work.
Big Duncan McMaster thrived in his first match as captain and Connor Galvin once again showed why he's been continually targeted by Ovens and Murray clubs.
Ageless warrior Marty Bahr showed he'd lost none of his touch since winning last year's Des Kennedy Medal by bobbing up with crucial touches and a team-lifting third quarter goal.
Will Ryan drew cheers from the Osborne faithful after a big hit on Wagga Tigers forward Jim Grills and Michael Driscoll's big mark and pinpoint pass to Galvin ensured the highlights kept coming.
Wagga Tigers didn't give in without a fight though.
After trailing by 21 points early in the final quarter, Troy Maiden's side kept coming with John Buchanan playing a lone hand with three goals in attack.
The Tigers are a completely new-look side to last season with the loss expected to sting them into action in the six-match home and away series.
As for Osborne though, the more things change the more they stay the same.
