Fifteen-year-old Sam Bakes shattered his best score to post a scintillating eight-under par 62 at Commercial Albury Golf Club on Saturday.

Bakes fired an eagle, eight birdies, seven pars and two bogeys in the round of his blossoming career.
"I didn't force anything, it just happened, it all came together," he said.
Remarkably, the scratch marker had only 22 putts with 27 considered superb for a low handicapper.

And he didn't need the flat stick on the par-five 2nd.
"I hit the driver down the left and from about 230m out hit a three-wood into the right bunker and holed it," he said.
"I've been mainly working on my putting because my ball striking's been pretty good."
The only blemishes were on the par-four 8th and 16th.
"On the 8th I hit to about 15 feet for birdie and three-putted, missing a two-footer, and on 16, I hit it long," he said.

Pro Zach Murray holds the course record with 61, but Bakes was playing off the medium tee markers, albeit only a few metres ahead of the championship plates.
"The course record was around summer, when the course is at its best, but it's now `playing its full measure, so that score is unbelievable," club pro John van der Veen said.
