Police have questioned a man over an alleged sexual assault following a North East football club's grand final celebrations.

A 26-year-old woman recently told police she became unwell after drinking a glass of orange juice, was taken to a bedroom, and woke the next day with injuries consistent with being sexually assaulted.
A man was recently arrested, questioned and released without charge, and Detective Sergeant Cliff Hyndman said further arrests were expected.

"We're just building a picture of what happened," he said.
"We'd request more witnesses come forward, anyone who may know someone who was at the party or was at the party themselves.
"Any bit of information is welcome."
The event was not sanctioned by the club.
"The victim was quite traumatised at the time," he said in June.
"It's obviously had a huge impact on her life and she's in a space now where she was comfortable to disclose to police what occurred."
The case is being handled by the Westgate sex offence unit, based at Footscray.
