Nathan Rushton resides at Osbornes Flat and has been having his breath testing unit serviced at Ultim8 Car Fit in East Albury since its installation in January.
Now Service NSW has told him that legally he is not permitted to cross the Murray River for that purpose.
"They've basically said 'go to Wangaratta and get it done there there', but then I'm concerned because I'm driving towards the areas that are infected (with COVID-19)," Mr Rushton said.
"I understand I did the wrong thing in the first place, everyone makes a stupid mistake which I did, but it feels now like you're being punished for trying to do the right thing.
"It's just a bit of a nightmare."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Mr Rushton has a brand of interlock which cannot be checked by Wodonga auto electrical firm McBean and Lawson which services other models and Wangaratta is the next nearest place to look after his Smart Start type.
As part of the court's penalty process, drink drivers can choose which model they have in their vehicle.
The data recorded each month is transmitted to the court to ensure the offender meets the magistrate's order to be alcohol-free.
Ultim8 interlock fitter Ben Newley said there was about 20 motorists who lived beyond the blue zone in Victoria that were in the same position as Mr Rushton.
He said in theory they could have another motorist drive the car over from Wodonga but that would involve complications.
Mr Rushton, who had never previously been caught drink driving and blew over 0.10, said he was due to have his next service on Friday.
"After a few days the car will switch off and it can to be towed to the nearest service centre if it doesn't get serviced," he said.
A Service NSW staff member told Mr Rushton that a permit that allows Victorians to travel into NSW for legal obligations did not cover his situation.
"As your legal obligations are in Victoria, we are not able to assist you," she wrote.
"I do apologise for the inconvenience that this may cause, however there are alternatives which are available to you."
