Chiltern Post Office operators Matt and Emma Williams sent lolly bags to 700 addresses, covering the 3683 postcode.

Ms Williams said their daughter helped her package 850 bags of lollies from The Beechworth Sweet Co.

"We just thought it would be nice to do something little to put a smile on everyone's face," she said.

"Instead of dropping bills to people's houses, we dropped off lollies, though to be honest some still got bills!"

Ms Williams said their delivery area stretched halfway to Barnawartha, halfway to Rutherglen and halfway to Springhurst.

"We just really aimed to give everyone a lift in times like these," Ms Williams said.

"We were blown away with the feedback; some kids drew beautiful pictures for us, other residents baked things for us, we got preserves and jams!"

Ms Williams said they had been kept busy throughout the coronavirus pandemic as people - who were isolated from loved ones - sent and received more parcels.

"At our peak during the lockdown we had triple the number of parcels of a normal week," she said.

"Now it's still double what we'd normally have."

Having moved from Melbourne to run the post office almost 13 years ago, the couple had opened The Vine Chiltern with Clare Reeves and Shayne Vogel in the Star Hotel building in 2015.

"It's a lovely community; coming from Melbourne I'd underestimated the whole community side of things," Ms Williams told The Border Mail five years ago.
