A man has been charged after allegedly punching a police officer in a early morning attempt at trying to evade a border checkpoint on the weekend.

While the 22-year-old female driver and a 25-year-old woman in the front-passenger seat presented valid permits and ID, police allege a man travelling in the back seat provided false information and attempted to run from police.
"After checks revealed the man was wanted on seven outstanding warrants - including a revocation of parole warrant - the 21-year-old man attempted to run from the vehicle, allegedly punching a senior constable in the face, knocking him to the ground," a NSW Police statement said.
Detective Acting Inspector Troy Martin, the Murray River Police District acting crime manager, declined to comment specifically on the incident when talking to the media on Monday morning.

"'No law enforcement officer should ever be assaulted whilst they're undertaking their duties," he said.
"That is clear and anyone that does do that will obviously front court and be dealt with in relation to the law.
"We won't stand for it and nor should we."
The Ashmont man was arrested by police and Defence Force officers after a short struggle and was taken to Corowa Hospital with police suspecting the man was on drugs.
"Officers seized drug paraphernalia when the vehicle was searched," NSW Police said.
The female driver tested positive for methamphetamine roadside.
"After the man was released from hospital, he was taken to Corowa Police Station where he was charged with assault police in execution of duty, and resist officer in execution of duty," NSW Police said.
"He was also charged with the outstanding warrants.
"The Ashmont man was refused bail to appear in Wagga Wagga Local Court on Wednesday.
"The senior constable has been treated for facial swelling and bruising; all officers were checked and released."
