Garlett signed a permit with Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong before last weekend's deadline but says his availability will depend on the Lions' player points.
"If I can play I will, but if I can't it's not the end of the world," Garlett said.
"I'll take it as it comes.
"It's not bothering me.
"Just coming out of the AFL I think I'm still six points so the footy club will have to work all of that out."
Albury has the biggest representation of any Ovens and Murray club playing with Jake Gaynor, Jim Grills and Brayden O'Hara (Wagga Tigers) and Zach Bye (Osborne) lining up last weekend.
Former Tigers Joel Mackie and Elliott Powell are also playing for the Ostriches.
Players must play three matches to qualify for finals.
"They gave me a call after players here were allowed to play and I just put the permit in just in case," Garlett said.
"One of the guys is going to give me a call to work out what's going on.
"As I said, I'm not too stressed."
Ganmain product and Melbourne football operations manager Daniel McPherson was the link to Garlett at the Lions.
"I've had heaps to do with Daniel, he's a top bloke," he said.
"They mentioned his name when we had a chat."
Garlett has been combining gym sessions and walks to keep himself fit while he took Albury's juniors for training last week.
"I go down to Adrenaline (Albury gym) a few times a week and just keep ticking the boxes," he said.
"I'm trying to keep my mind active with all that is going on."
Pending coronavirus restrictions, Garlett plans to return to Darwin in October to play in the Northern Territory's Premier League.
Meanwhile, Mackie is facing two or three weeks on the sidelines after straining his hamstring in Osborne's 25-point loss to Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes.
Mackie had scans earlier this week and is waiting for the results.
"I'm not sure yet but I might miss a couple," Mackie said.
Mackie hurt himself in the opening minutes last weekend and was forced to play deep in attack for the rest of the match.
Young Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong full-forward Riley Corbett could miss the rest of the season with a broken foot.
The 20-year-old landed awkwardly early in last week's one-point loss to Wagga Tigers, with scans revealing a small fracture and extensive ligament damage.
