A welfare officer from the Albury sub-branch contacted the 72-year-old Albury resident, who was targeted at the weekend.
Two intruders entered his Grafton Street home on Saturday, armed with a tomahawk and hammer, and attacked the man in his bed when he refused to hand over his car keys.
The pair remain on the run.
IN OTHER NEWS:
RSL sub-branch president Graham Docksey said support was available for the man.
"Once we know that someone needs assistance or we think they need assistance, our welfare officers will get onto them to see what we can do," he said.
"It's mates looking after mates.
"We just wanted to make sure if there are any items him or his wife needs, or transportation, we're able to do that."
