Van Klaveren was appointed co-coach alongside Luke Brookes over the summer.
However, the former Wodonga Raider said increasing work commitments made it impossible for him to co-coach again next season.
"Mainly through work commitments I've had to step down," Van Klaveren said.
"The body is struggling a bit as well and I don't think I would have been able to play much this season anyway.
"The shoulder I injured last year is still not 100 per cent.
"I was going to step down at the end of this season regardless."

Van Klaveren said he would weigh-up his playing future over the off-season.
The rebounding defender returned to Chiltern last year after a two-year stint with Wodonga Raiders.
The 29-year-old missed the second-half of last season with a should complaint before returning for the finals.
"It's only early days but for the past four years I have got through the pre-season but haven't been able to string together a full season," he said.
"It doesn't get any easier as you get older and I turn 30 next year.
"I don't want to spend the twilight of my career battling injury and not being able to play much.
"I can't say I won't play next season.
"But it's early days and I'll see what the commitment levels are like and what my role at the club will be.
"It's either Chiltern or retirement."
Despite not coaching a match, Van Klaveren said it was an eye-opener as to how much time and effort goes into the role.
"As a player you just rock up and train and play," he said
"But there is a whole different side to when you are coaching and how much work is involved behind the scenes.
"You can see why a lot of guys thrive on coaching and why some just prefer to play without the burden.
"I have a lot more appreciation for the committee and volunteers now seeing first hand the time and effort that they put into the club."
Co-coach Luke Brookes has committed for a third season at the helm.
The Swans are keen to replace Van Klaveren with another playing co-coach.
Brookes and Ricky Whitehead led the Swans to their first finals appearance since 2015 last season.
Despite losing Whitehead over the summer, the Swans enjoyed a productive off-season and looked to be a genuine flag contender.
Van Klaveren said it was disappointing the season was abandoned.
"We were excited about what we could have achieved this year because we did recruit fairly well," he said.
