Police are encouraging people to understand Victorian COVID-19 restrictions after sending people back to Melbourne at the weekend.

People attended Dinner Plain and Bright under the belief they were exempt from travel restrictions.
Police made enquiries before asking them to return to Melbourne.
"They came up, genuinely thinking they were exempt," Senior Sergeant Doug Incoll said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"Any clear breaches will receive penalty notices, but people need to understand the DHHS restrictions which are regularly changing.
"The responsibility really is on the individuals to understand the restrictions.
"The more people who do the right thing will allow us to get through this.
"It's pleasing that the vast majority of people are doing the right thing."
Melbourne residents remain unable to leave the city unless for permitted work, and can only go five kilometres from their home for essential shopping, exercise and for medical treatment.
