EARLIER: A woman suffered a serious head injury after hitting a wall on the Borella Road bridge at high speed on Tuesday afternoon, with alcohol found in the vehicle after the crash.
The 45-year-old's speedometer was locked at 130km/h after the incident, which occurred about 4.10pm.
Her sedan travelled southbound on the Hume Highway onto the off-ramp and failed to slow.
It hit a concrete guard and sound barrier near the on-ramp.
IN OTHER NEWS:
A NSW Ambulance spokesman said the woman had a broken leg and serious head injury.
She was transported to nearby Albury hospital in a serious condition.
Albury and Border Rescue Squad captain Paul Marshall said the side of the vehicle had to be removed to access the driver.
"She had some fairly serious injuries," he said.
"It was quite a substantial impact with the wall.
"It's probably lucky no-one was crossing the intersection at the time."
The incident occurred during a peak traffic period.
Mr Marshall said children had been riding in the area as the crash was being cleared.
"It's very lucky no-one else was involved," he said.
