A man whose vehicle was torched in a targeted attack while in prison has been denied release on firearm theft charges.

Police opposed Causby's release on Thursday, with the Wodonga man accused of stealing three guns and a cache of other property worth about $6500 from a Stanley home on March 22.
"I've got concerns if he gets bail his life's just going to spiral out of control like it has for the last six or eight months," Detective Leading Senior Constable Ash Eames said.
He said he had "no confidence" Causby would abide by his bail conditions.

There are concerns Causby is ingrained in the Wodonga drug and crime scene.
He was on bail on the firearm burglary charges, but had it revoked last month after repeatedly breaching curfew and being caught multiple times with drugs.
He was also caught with a knife at the Wodonga Magistrates Court on April 6.
One of the stolen firearms - an air rifle - still hasn't been found.
Causby denies he was involved in the air rifle theft.
Police found the other two stolen .22 rifles, ammunition, a gun belt, car stereo, printer, drill, horse saddle and various other items at his Campbell Avenue home following the Stanley break-in.
He had allegedly used a screwdriver to pry open a gun safe at the remote property to steal the guns.
Causby's brother offered to house him at his Trudewind Road property during Thursday's bail application.
"I guarantee he won't be doing it," he said when asked how he would prevent Clifton from using drugs.
"He won't have drugs at my house."
He said the accused man had been a good worker until the breakdown of his relationship and subsequent drug use.
Magistrate Ian Watkins said he was "troubled" by the car fire and refused bail, with Causby to return on September 10.
