The vehicle had been driven without plates or headlights towards the home before another Ford was torched in the driveway.
The offending vehicle quickly sped off from the scene.
The owner of the damaged Wodonga vehicle, Clifton Causby, is in custody on gun theft allegations.
He allegedly has ties to the local drug scene and criminals.
His bail was recently revoked after he was caught with drugs on multiple occasions.
Police said a blue Ford BA Falcon, which was set alight at Sarvaas Park on Wednesday morning, could be the one used in the arson attack on Causby's car.
The Falcon was found burning at the sports precinct, off Curlew Crescent, about 5.30am.
The blue car was gutted, with the fire appearing to have started inside the vehicle.
The cabin of the car and engine were extensively damaged, but the front and rear and some panels remained intact.
Firefighters spent about 20 minutes bringing the blaze under control.
The task was made more difficult as the car had a full tank of fuel, which had to be burnt off for safety reasons.
The car has distinctive stickers on the rear, including one which reads "Sponsored by Centrelink".
A badge says the car is a "hoon edition".
