The joint ministerial committee consisting of mayors, the Deputy Prime Minister, the Victorian and NSW regional development ministers will chiefly determine deal priorities and negotiate funding contributions from federal, state and local governments on those big-ticket items.
The joint ministerial committee will sit above an executive board made up of Albury and Wodonga council chief executives Frank Zaknich and Mark Dixon, cross-border commissioners, James McTavish and Luke Wilson and other government bureaucrats.
They will complement the six reference groups in the areas of economic development, infrastructure and connectivity; health and social services; education; liveable community and tourism; defence and surrounding councils.
The deal's governance structure was revealed by Wodonga Council this week.
Cr Speedie said she looked forward to the work done by the committees involved.
"That is what will become before councils to ensure we plan the future of our community well," she said.
Cr Danny Lowe said the initial funding of $3 million for the regional deal from the federal government was the catalyst for reaching this point.
"We've already got six reference groups up and going where we've partnered and collaborated with our communities, particularly in the private sector," he said.
"It's not just about local government."
