Saurabh Bandekar topped the association's run-scorers in 2018-19, cracking 843 runs at 56, with one ton and seven half-centuries.
"He's very similar to 'Bandy', he looks and bats very similar to him," coach Akki Murthy said.
"He knew 'Bandy' from a young age, playing at a junior level."
Bandekar has played 64 first-class games and boasts more than 2000 runs, including a ton and 10 half-centuries.
Shaikh hasn't played first-class cricket, although he's spent time with Mumbai's squad at that level.
