Towong Council said The Town That Moved and Grow received strong support from a community consultation in May. Part of the Destination Tallangatta project, the murals will be created by Chiltern artist Kirrily Anderson.
Mayor David Wortmann said the council appreciated the feedback received, which guided the selection and placement of the artwork.
"Community art can be challenging to get right, where every individual interprets art different to the next," he said.
"As Tallangatta residents will hopefully be coming out of stage three restrictions in September, the bright and vibrant murals that each represent a special story about Tallangatta will be a welcomed sight to lift the spirits."
IN OTHER NEWS:
The Town That Moved, to be applied to the Viking Genetics building, 53 Towong Street, shows properties from Old Tallangatta and some that were relocated in 1956.
It features the blue of Lake Hume, the reason for the shift, and bronze coloured circles that represent pennies found under the relocated houses.
Grow, on the Nicola Teek building, 4 Banool Road, evokes residents' concerns before the town moved that gardens may not grow at the new site.
The design incorporates many significant plants, those that were transplanted from the old town to what is grown now, fruit, vegetables and native flora.
They sit on two triangles that reference Tallangatta's central meeting place.
The two other concepts proposed in the consultation were an Old Tallangatta photo collection and Intrepid Spirit, an abstract work that depicted a young woman and attracted some negative feedback.
