Victorian Health Minister Jenny Mikakos addressed the issue Parliament on Tuesday, following a question from Wangaratta-based MP Tania Maxwell.

"Our government has been very acutely aware of the challenges facing our border communities in recent weeks," Ms Mikakos said.

"We welcome the changes that have been announced.

"They are sensible steps that will allow out border communities to go about their daily lives with fewer restrictions.

"Our government will await further details of those changes."

The minister did not address a specific issue raised by Ms Maxwell, who told the Parliament that when NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian spoke in Albury on Tuesday morning, she said there had been difficulty obtaining information from the Victorian government about testing and community transmission.

Ms Mikakos said the government was continuing to advocate on behalf of border communities.

"I can assure border communities that we are working very actively on behalf of their interests and we will continue to do so with our neighbouring states," she said.

Ms Maxwell also said restrictions on the movement of specialist clinicians being able to cross the border to get to work were "nonsensical and dangerous".

"These problems have become so manifest that clinicians have been calling for weeks for the creation of an emergency lane on border crossings to specifically allow for the essential fast movement of these vehicles," she said.
