Wodonga police were called to Dundee Drive, Wodonga around 9.30am to a Ford Falcon that had crashed into a home.

Leading Senior Constable Josh Hudson told The Border Mail the 18-year-old male driver was hit with three penalty notices for the incident.

"We spoke to the kid there at the property at Dundee Drive, he was a learner driver who was unaccompanied," he said.

"He received a penalty notice for that but the car was also unregistered.

"The car had no number plates on it.

"That was another penalty notice.

"And he also received one for it being an unroadworthy vehicle.

"So he was handed three fines."

Leading Senior Constable Hudson said the man told police his brakes had failed.

This caused him to crash through one property's front fence and into the side of the next door neighbour's house.

"His story goes his brakes stopped working a few days before and they failed again on this occasion, causing him to lose control of the car," he said."

A witness, who only wanted to be known as David, told The Border Mail the driver was doing burnouts before the crash.

"I head him doing a burnout for quite a few seconds, I heard the wheels spinning," he said.

"Then I came out here, saw the car up the driveway into the house and they were cleaning up some of the rubbish out of the wheelie bin he had knocked over.

"I heard the bloke saying he hit the gutter and his brake failed, doesn't sound like he was doing the right thing."

Leading Senior Constable Hudson said there was no way to prove the driver was doing anything illegal before he lost control.

Meanwhile, fire crews were called to the Wodonga court house on Elgin Boulevard on Thursday after an alarm sounded.

The court was evacuated around 12.20pm and two CFA fire trucks attended the scene.

The court house was deemed safe and the alarm a false alarm after a short time.
