A series of cold fronts dropped the temperature significantly on Friday, with Albury-Wodonga reaching a top of just eight degrees.
Our alpine peaks saw around 30 centimetres of snow fall overnight Thursday and continued to fall on Friday, blanketing ski resorts such as Falls Creek in white.
For the resort management, this weekend is the perfect time for regional Victorians to get out and enjoy what could be the last snow play of the year.
And the best part: entry is free.
Falls Creek Resort Management communications and marketing manager Sarah Watt said businesses are excited to welcome tourists back to the area.
"Due to the bushfires last summer, followed by COVID, many of the businesses at Falls Creek haven't been fully operational since January," she said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"We encourage those who can, to come with an empty esky and dine out at one of Falls Creek's delectable cafes and restaurants which have done their best to reopen.
"The resort is spectacular now, with lovely spring days, blossoming native flowers and plenty of walking trails to be explored.
"There is even a dusting of snow forecast this weekend, for those wishing to bring the family up for snow play.
"We recommend making a weekend of it and stay with one of our many accommodation providers.
"There are options suitable for all budgets."
While some restrictions have been eased, the resort is still required to operate under its COVID safe plan.
This requires all visitors to pre-register online through the Falls Creek website, print and display their dashboard pass while in the resort.
Everyone entering the resort must drive through lane one of the Howman's Gap ticket box to enter the resort.
The ticket box will continue to be staffed.
The Bureau of Meteorology recorded 11.6 millimetres of rain in Albury overnight to 3pm Friday.
Falls Creek received 31 millimetres of snow overnight Thursday.
The bureau is forecasting the wintery weather to continue across the weekend with a shower or two expected on Saturday with a top of 14 degrees.
Overnight Saturday is forecast to drop to one degree before climbing to a top of 15 degrees on Sunday.
