A long standing aim to remove large trucks from the Corryong main street has taken a significant step forward with a $1.376 million federal funding boost.

An alternative truck route will be created along the present gravel road behind the Corryong Recreation Reserve known as the Stock Route with the overall project cost being $2.8 million.
The federal funding has been announced as part of a pre-budget release of an overall $290 million funding round which includes nine projects in Indi.
They are worth a combined $5.675 million with the Corryong Stock Route upgrade securing the highest amount closely followed by an upgrade of the Nimmo Bridge on Buffalo River Road worth $1.211 million.
"The main street is pretty tight with two roundabouts," Towong mayor David Wortmann said.

"It's always been a little bit dangerous.
"The trucks will use the Stock Route, but the issue has been a 90-degree bend which B-Doubles couldn't get around."
Towong Shire already has state government funding to upgrade Hanson Street on the western approach to Corryong.
"This vital funding will allow councils right across the country to fast-track their highest priority infrastructure projects, providing a much-needed boost to local jobs and the economy," Liberal Senator Hume said.
"I am pleased nine important road infrastructure projects across Indi will receive over $5.6 million at a time where it couldn't be needed more.
"This is especially important for our region, that was hit by bushfires, border closures, and the coronavirus pandemic."
