Border live theatre returns to the stage this month when Albury Wodonga Theatre Company presents Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
With ticket sales limited to 35 people each show, already three of the six public performances at the group's South Albury base have sold out. Other COVID-safe measures will include recording audience contact details, people remaining seated and spacing between patrons.
First scheduled for April, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof had to be cancelled three weeks before opening night during the first round of coronavirus restrictions.
Director Aana Nicol said the cast and crew had been so disappointed after all their work and by July they began exploring future dates.
"I just said, 'OK, let's put it back on the agenda, and if we can't put it on, then we'll do a live feed or something like that, but we're definitely going to do it'," she said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"We're all ready to open now ... it's been 10 months, which is ridiculous in a sense, we've been living and breathing this thing."
The Tennessee Williams drama examines the relationships and growing tension within a southern US family.
"It's a pretty thought-provoking type of play, themes that still run through today, that lack of communication between families, dysfunctional stuff," the director said.
"I've put a modern twist to the production side of it, but I've held true to the script."
There are seven adult cast members, with not all the original choices able to commit to the new dates.
"Everybody's in high spirits and strangely enough, no one's got sick," Nicol said.
"When we do productions, you always find somebody getting sick, so obviously COVID hygiene stuff is having its up side."
Positive Facebook comments when a possible return to the stage was flagged gave the team confidence.
"I'm really pleased about being able to do it and I really want the community to be supportive and come back to it too," Nicol said.
"Just talking to people I know, the idea of coming out and actually being able to come out and see some live performances again is exciting."
Tickets for Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, October 9 to 24, can be booked at showtickets.online or via the AWTCo Facebook page.
