Like many sports, Supercars went through the drama of maybe not having a season to etching out a 10-round schedule, culminating at the iconic Mount Panorama track next weekend.

"It's great to be back in Albury after 10 weeks on the road. It's also good for our guys to be sleeping in their own beds - it really does freshen you up," Hazelwood said.

"It also makes a big difference for us to be in our own workshop to prepare the cars, so it's been a good lead up to Bathurst for us."

In his first year with Albury-based BJR, Hazelwood has gone from strength to strength, with five top ten finishes and a career-first pole position in Townsville.

In only his third season in the main series, at times he's been one of the fastest cars on track and diced with the biggest names in the sport at the front of the pack.

As he heads to The Mountain this year, Hazelwood is aware of the challenges that a COVID-affected season will bring.

"Normally we would have done at least one endurance race before Bathurst," he said.

"That gives you the chance to acclimatise your body and mind to the longer race format and the different dynamics that they bring.

"We haven't done driver changes, refuelling and those things in a race situation that helps you fine-tune everything.

"It's the same for everyone, so it's an opportunity to get an advantage if you can do it better than others. But I'm really excited to be going there in a BJR car, we've had good form and car speed lately and their cars are generally pretty quick at Bathurst, so I can't wait."

Hazelwood will team up with Albury young gun Jordan Boys, who will make his main series debut in this year's great race.

The two have known each other for some time and Hazelwood understands what Boys is about to experience.

"It wasn't that long ago I made my debut at Bathurst, so I can relate to what Jordan will be thinking and going through, so I'll be able to help him manage that," he said.

"He's a pretty cool customer and really quick, so I think we will have a good chance of being the young guns going at it and the quiet achievers throughout the day."

Boys himself is not looking to overachieve but make sure he does what Hazelwood and the team want of him.

"My job is to drive quick, consistent laps, keep the car straight and hand it back to Todd in good condition for the run home," Boys said.

"I'm glad that I will also be driving in the Super2 races, as that will give me plenty of track time and time to get comfortable.

"I'm not too nervous now, but I'm sure they'll hit when I get in the car, but once I'm actually out there I tend to be able to switch them off and focus on driving.

"It's a huge opportunity, I'm really grateful to Brad (team owner Brad Jones) and to Todd and I hope I'll get the job done for them."
