Lee suffered a stroke at his Falls Creek home last month and the harsh reality of the setback was laid bare by doctors at his Wangaratta rehab facility last week.
The family issued a statement via Steve Lee's Support Tribe Facebook page detailing the extent of the damage he has sustained.
ALSO IN SPORT:
"Steve's brain is very swollen, which is expected following the clot that was left unattended for so long after his stroke," the statement said.
"Steve's working memory and cognitive function have been affected by his stroke, with his orientation to time and place fluctuating, often thinking he is on the slopes or surfing somewhere."
Snow Australia has set up an online fundraiser, Steve Lee Fightback, to provide financial assistance.
