Benjamin James Clancy, 43, held up a knife sharpener above his head during Saturday night's ice-fuelled incident.
His mother feared being hit with the object.
The incident began at the John Street home about 9.30pm when Clancy showed up while high and demanded his asthma puffer.
"That's not my f---ing puffer you old ----," he yelled at his mother as she tried to hand it over.
He pushed her in her chest which caused her to fall and feel pain in her upper body.
Clancy left after making threats with the steel sharpener, which he used a short time later to pry open the locked security door.
He left again and handed himself into Corowa police about 3.40pm on Sunday.
"Shocking police facts," magistrate Richard Funston said on Monday.
"It was his mother."
Clancy's mother supported him in court as he applied for bail.
"Well she's long suffering ... of course she's going to support her son," Mr Funston said.
Police opposed the release application.

Lawyer Sascha McCorriston said her client had been in a major motorbike crash on April 29 last year and spent a month in a coma.
"In his own words, he shouldn't be alive today," she said.
Mr Funston refused bail given Clancy's ice problem and acquired brain injury.
"You can't assault your mum the way you did," he said.
"You can't assault your mum ever.
"You're clearly using drugs at the moment, you're using ice, and you're going to commit further offences if you get out."
Clancy and his mother both started crying when his bid for release was denied.
"It's hard for his mum to have to witness all that," Mr Funston said.
The matter will return to court on November 24.
Clancy will be sentenced on charges of assault and destroying or damaging property after entering guilty pleas on Monday.
