A long-term competitor in the Supercars Super2 Series, the Albury-based team has taken another major step to be mixing it with the bigger teams in the category.

Matt McLean will race alongside Matt Chahda at the Mount Panorama circuit, with team owner Amin Chahda saying the extra car is a huge advantage for the main driver, his son Matt.

"The top cars are only a few tenths of a second apart, so getting the car setup right is vital," Amin said.

"When you only have one car it takes a lot longer to get there than when you have two cars to experiment with.

"It's just so much easier and faster to find the right settings."

Amin also reflected on the journey that he and Matt have taken to get to this point.

"We sent both cars out together at a test day recently and it gave me goosebumps as I watched them both leave pit lane, 'we have two Supercars out there running around', it was a great feeling," he said.

"We're a family-run team, the only one left actually, everyone else is affiliated with main game teams. So it's exciting to see where we are and what we've achieved."

Matt is looking for redemption at this year's event having come close to pulling off a stunning victory last year.

After qualifying just outside the top ten, Chahda drove a great race and was in a leading position just prior to the pit stops in the 250-kilometre event.

But the team left him out for one lap too long and the car ran out of fuel at the bottom of Conrod Straight.

"I was lucky to be able to roll all the way into pit lane but we lost about 45 seconds because of that and we ended up only 17 seconds behind the winner, so we should have won," Matt said.

"It does give you confidence going back there though.

"It's such a great place - Bathurst is wild. Coming over skyline is pretty amazing, you come up to it full noise in fifth gear at over 200km/h and drop off a cliff just about. You literally can't see where the road goes."

Matt is also looking forward to having McLean alongside him.

"I've always wanted a teammate, to build an actual team has been our dream and this a big step forward to achieving that," he said.

"To have two cars running is a massive advantage in practice, so it will be really great."

Despite all the positives for the Chahda's there will be a tinge of sadness in the garage this year with the death of Amin's father and Matt's grandfather two weeks ago.

"It has been tough," Amin said.

"It's hard on Matt too because it was really hard for him to lose his grandfather. It's going to be a very emotional Bathurst for us, but we're doing it."

Super2 cars hit the track for the first of two practice sessions this morning and also have qualifying for both 100-kilometre races on Friday and Saturday.
