Mr Maguire also accepted he received thousands of dollars in cash from Maggie Wang in his Parliament House office in relation to securing Australian visas.

The ICAC is investigating allegations Mr Maguire used his public office for personal gain between 2012 and 2018.

Taking the stand on Wednesday morning, Mr Maguire said "yes" to the question of whether he used his office in Parliament House for the "course of seeking to pursue personal business interest".

Counsel Assisting ICAC Scott Robertson asked Mr Maguire if, during the period from 2012 to 2018, he sought to "monetize" his office and the Parliamentary Asia Pacific Friendship Group in terms of seeking to use the status and resources of those public offices, with a view to making money for himself and his associates.

"Yes" Mr Maguire replied.

Mr Maguire said he understood the Parliamentary Asia Pacific Friendship Group was not allowed to engage in commercial activities and as chairman of the group he was not authorised to represent the executive government, such as during trips to the South Pacific.

Mr Maguire also agreed he "partly" turned his parliamentary office "into an office for G8wayinterational", a company he admitted to acting as a director for despite not officially holding the role.

Mr Maguire said he "favoured" the company and admitted he sought to make money from the company.

"To establish an effective network was the purpose of G8way," he said.

Mr Maguire admitted that he sought to conceal his involvement but denied he planned to transition into an official director role with G8way after his retirement from Parliament.

He said he concealed his involvement in G8wayinternational because if he was formally appointed, he would have to declare to Parliament his involvement in the company whose activities would appear improper.

Mr Robertson asked why he did not disclose his involvement when he could have done so under Parliament's rules for his position at the time.

Mr Maguire said he could not remember.

Mr Maguire said "not that I recall" to questions over whether he disclosed income from G8wayinternational.

"I believe I didn't have income", he said.

Mr Robertson challenged this, pointing to Mr Maguire's admission he received thousands of dollars in cash from Maggie Wang for a visa scheme.

Mr Maguire admitted that he kept some of the money and gave some to G8wayinternational director Phillip Elliott but concealed the true figure from him and shared the rest with Maggie Wang.
