Jack Seton, who works at Barlow Bros in Wodonga, is completing a Certificate III in Light Vehicle Technology at TAFE NSW Albury and was invited to Mount Panorama last week to assist Team Sydney at the biggest race in Australian motorsport.
Mr Seton has one year until he's fully qualified and was offered full-time work once he has finished his apprenticeship.
The 21-year-old helped assemble brakes, check tyres and cleaned the car driven by Chris Pither and Steve Owen in the 1000-kilometre classic.
"At the end of it they said they were really happy with my work ethic and would really like me to be part of the team," Mr Seton said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"I must have been doing something right, which is nice to hear.
"I'm not too sure what I want to do yet, but I definitely want to finish my trade and get qualified.
"They told me just to keep in contact and if I want to do any more work experience with them or go to any more races and help them out, I'm more than welcome."
It was Mr Seton's first time at the great race and he's already itching to get back.
"It was a great experience. I couldn't have asked to be with a better team," he said.
"It's a great bunch of guys there and I got on well with everyone.
"It's a big credit to the TAFE because they gave me this opportunity, so a big thanks has to go to all the teachers and everyone that helped us get there. I couldn't get enough of it."
Mr Seton was one of five apprentice mechanics from southern NSW invited to the Bathurst 1000 to work with Supercar teams.
"I think a couple of the other boys got offers as well, so as a group we did really well," he added.
Pither and Owen finished 16th in the race won by Shane van Gisbergen and Garth Tander.
