Yorke, recently returned from an 18-month disqualification after being found guilty of presenting his mare Follow Through to the races with an elevated cobalt level in July 2017.

The veteran trainer has moved into Brett Cavanough's former stables and has about 20 horses under his care.

Yorke is also presently the caretaker trainer for Cloverlea Farm with regular trainer Laura McCullum disqualified until Boxing Day.

McCullum received a four month ban from Racing NSW stewards in July for breaching its strict COVID-19 protocols and crossing the border into Victoria when not permitted.

Yorke has been a trainer for more than four decades.

The Kiwi trainer claimed the biggest win of his career in the 1990 Victoria Derby with maiden colt Fire Oak.

Yorke who was previously based in Grafton, said he had all intentions of retiring from training after he was disqualified.

"I was going to give the game away," Yorke said.

"I intended on doing what most retirees dream of and travel around Australia in a caravan.

"But I got to Albury and fell in love with the joint and I haven't left since.

"Being retired is a lot harder than you think and the toughest job that I've ever had.

"I just missed having something to do, I've been getting up at 3am every morning for most of my life."

Yorke is good friends with Albury trainer Denise Wise and her partner, Clayton, who convinced him to stay on the Border and help out with the training of their horses.

The New Zealander initially started work at local manufacturing business Bradken before returning to his passion of training horses.

"I loved my time at Bradken but I've got too many horses to train, so I had to give it away," he said.

"That's the thing I love most about the Border, is the people, they are real country people who are only too willing to help you out."

Yorke didn't take long to make his presence felt in the local training ranks after Purple Cup saluted at Cootamundra earlier this month.

It was only his second runner since his return.

The long-time trainer will be out to add to that tally at Albury on Saturday.

He has four runners with In Fashion, Charging Miss, Our Dreamsarefree and Purple Cup.

Yorke has a big opinion of Purple Cup.

"I'm not joking but I think Purple Cup has got the potential to win a group race," he said.

"I think I have got four good chances.

"They are all fit, well and healthy."
