SEASONAL SIGHTINGS
Aussie Backyard Bird Count, anywhere outdoors, Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25
Take a few minutes this weekend to go bird watching as part of a larger cause. Last year, citizen scientists recorded 3.4 million birds in the Aussie Backyard Bird Count, which finishes on Sunday. The 20 minute surveys compare results across Australia and are used to analyse the health of Australian birds. This year's count may provide more information about the impact of the summer bushfires. Seasonal counts take place throughout the year and Australians submitted 10 times the number of backyard bird surveys to BirdLife Australia in April, compared with the same time last year.
