Shane Ronald Clark hit one of the vehicles with such force, it flung a Wangaratta sergeant against an internal pillar.
The 32-year-old had come to police attention last year after a relationship breakdown, after which Clark moved in with his sister in Benalla.
Clark entered his ex-partner's home about 11.30pm on November 25 and screamed at her.
He threatened to slit her throat and kill himself and grabbed her throat.
"Enjoy your sleep tonight, I'll be back and when I see you I'm gunna slit your f---ing throat," he said.
The woman was hysterical and fled before police were called, and she was removed for her safety.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Two Wangaratta officers found Clark in his car at a reserve about 2.40am and tried to block him in.
He reversed then accelerated straight into the police van, before reversing and hitting it a second time, causing extensive damage.
Clark fled and again drove past the victim's house and was again seen about 3am.
He again drove towards police and veered past them as another police unit tried to set up road spikes.
An officer got out of their car but was quickly told to get back in as it became apparent Clark was going to ram them.
He smashed the police wagon at 55km/h to 60km/h, causing the Wangaratta sergeant to be flung into the B-pillar of the car.
Clark continued driving as sparks flew from his vehicle.
Police tried to nudge his car off the road but he wouldn't stop, and eventually crashed after hitting a culvert and becoming airborne.
Clark was arrested and taken in for mental health treatment at Wangaratta hospital.
He said he had hoped police would shoot him, was suicidal, and said he had smoked ice for four days straight before the incident.
The 32-year-old has been on bail since February 13 and appeared in the County Court this week.
The matter will return for sentencing on November 18.
