Following Collingwood premiership player Ben Reid's decision to join Wangaratta earlier this week, The Border Mail decided to examine all the AFL players who have played Ovens and Murray in the past decade (2010-2020).
A best team was comprised but it must be stressed was judged purely on their achievements at AFL level, so games played, best and fairests etc.
The players were chosen as close to their AFL positions as possible, although the odd one could be considered out of position.
If a player had, for example, five more games to his name, but never played in the position, it would go to the one with fewer matches.
Former AFL assistant coach and current Wangaratta Rovers' mentor Daryn Creswell, who played with and against a number of the players, was then asked for his opinion on the team and, specifically, if it would have played AFL finals this year.
"It'd go pretty close, you would say talent-wise, it would certainly be around the mark, there'd be no question about that," he said.
Players who didn't play in the O and M in the past decade, including Reid and Albury recruit Jeff Garlett, were not considered for selection.
The team comprises two AFL Hall of Famers in Brownlow medallist Jason Akermanias, who played and coached North Albury from 2013-16, and Sydney premiership captain Barry Hall, who played seven games and kicked 33 goals for Wangaratta Rovers in 2012.
The pair is among a host of All-Australians, including former Collingwood and Fremantle key position player Chris Tarrant, who played a one-off game for Wodonga Raiders in 2014.

"You forget about some of the players who've played in the competition," Cresswell said.
The league had a number of players, including three-time Geelong premiership player Brad Ottens (Yarrawonga), play 'guest' games.
