The skilled goal-defender has signed with Collingwood Magpies' squad for 2021 after spending the last three years as a training partner with the Melbourne Vixens.
After spending the last few months in a Queensland hub with the Vixens for the Suncorp Super Netball season, Newton said she's excited for her next challenge.
"I would have loved to have stayed at Vixens and it's sad to leave all of those people, but you've got to go where your opportunities are and I'm so excited to start with the Pies," she said.
"I know most of the girls there and it's the same state, so it's not too foreign.
"Having a new program and a new coach, whoever they may be, will be nice.
"Change is as good as a holiday."
It was a breakout season for Newton after receiving her most court time opportunities to date with the Vixens.
She hopes to take it a step further when she joins her fellow Pies and admitted she'll be taking much of what she's learnt this year with her.
"Getting on court those few times, I'd like to think that it won't be so daunting or overwhelming if I was to get that opportunity again," she said.
"Being listed in a team of 10, that's the goal.
"Persistence has paid off a bit."

The Vixens went on to win the flag by two goals against the West Coast Fever at Nissan Arena last month.
While Newton was on the sidelines for the decider, she said it was still just as thrilling to see the team victorious.
"It just made it all worth it in the end," she said.
"With everything that had gone into getting that season running, we didn't want to come away with anything less than that trophy.
"Watching from the sidelines I was just relieved.
"To have to go into those rooms post game with a loss would have been heartbreaking.
"It was a good experience, a good ending and good to come away with this opportunity now."
Newton has previously won a Victorian Netball League flag in 2018 and was the captain of Victoria Fury's premiership team last year.
After leaving the Queensland hub the Wodonga product will now enjoy a few weeks of rest before hitting the ground running with Collingwood in December.
The Magpies are yet to lock in a coach for next year after it was announced Rob Wright would be departing the club.
Wright spent three years with the Magpies and was at the helm as senior coach for two years.
Collingwood finished the season on the bottom of the ladder after securing one win for the season.
The club has also retained midcourter player Melissa Bragg for 2021.
