A driver has narrowly escaped major injury after hitting a tree at 100km/h near Wangaratta.

Emergency services were called to Glenrowan Road, which runs next the Hume Freeway, about 7am on Monday
An 18-year-old driver's vehicle left the road and crashed, with another driver forced to take evasive action to avoid being hit.
Sergeant Scott Mundie said the driver had been very lucky not to be more seriously injured.
The Benalla man appeared to have a broken jaw and collarbone and was taken to Wangaratta hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"We're unsure whether alcohol or drugs were involved and whether the person was speeding," he said.
"But it appears from the actions of the driver, there's some sort of inattention and he has maybe fallen asleep.
"It's very lucky he's avoided other vehicles and hasn't sustained serious injury.
"It was a minimum speed of 100km/h with no braking."
The vehicle was destroyed in the crash and was towed from the scene.
Police are investigating the incident.
