In one of the most recent incidents, multiple items were tagged at a Baranduda playground with green spray paint, discovered at the weekend.
Inspector Paul Hargreaves recently told The Border Mail business properties had also been targeted.
"What we do know is that is not always occurring at night," he said.
"We would anticipate with a lot of people being home in the COVID-19 environment, people may see something or think something is suspicious.
"We'd encourage the public to call us should they have any concerns.
"We'd much rather intervene early than intervene later after a crime has been committed."
Inspector Hargreaves last week said there had also been an increase in car thefts, with about five reported stolen in a three to four day period.
"On some occasions, people are entering unlocked doors and if the opportunity presents itself, with a key in the ignition or in the car somewhere, the vehicles will be stolen," he said.
"The hard part is that the vehicle will now be mobile in the community, which creates other road hazards and dangers.

"You've really got to pay attention to your own security, remove keys from your car and lock your homes and garage, which may include when you're home."
Meanwhile, police say a record number of officers have started work in the North East in recent months, with 18 taking jobs since July.
Three sergeants have started in Wodonga, one in Wangaratta, and 10 constables have started work in areas including Wangaratta, Rutherglen and Corryong.
Inspector Hargreaves said it was positive.
"It's a real asset to us, it's an increase to our station in Wodonga and it allows us some more flexibility to provide our service," he said.
"It give us a flexibility with things like special operations, major events and emergencies."
