The Border Mail understands the Zimbabwean first-class player tried to play a lap-sweep, but the ball lobbed in the air where Eagles' wicketkeeper and captain Nat Sariman was waiting to take the catch.
It's alleged there was contact between Maruma and Sariman, who held the catch.
The umpires came together immediately and informed both captains a report had been made.
Murray Border Umpires notified Cricket Albury-Wodonga's secretary on Saturday night that a report was imminent and, under the association's constitution, that must be lodged by 5pm on Monday.
IN OTHER NEWS:
North Albury president Dale Paddle hadn't received the charge by lunchtime on Monday and was therefore unaware of the wording.
Paddle has said Maruma's professionalism is the best he's seen in nearly a decade.
